The Flatlanders
The Flatlanders were born at the 2014 Cateran Yomp, when I was joined by colleagues from the Netherlands, a country whose highest point would barely qualify as a warm-up on the Cateran Trail.
In 2015 all of The Flatlanders made it all the way round.
The name was a gift that wrote itself. A team drawn from the flattest land in Europe, voluntarily taking on 54 miles of Cairngorm foothills, armed with excellent preparation, questionable optimism and absolutely no home advantage whatsoever.
What started as a one-off has become something of an institution. The faces have changed over the years, the blisters have not, and the founding principle remains firmly intact: hills are a novelty best experienced together, preferably with someone nearby to complain to in two languages.
In 2027 The Flatlanders march one last time.
