In April 2026, I’ll be running the London Marathon in memory of my amazing dad, Alan Moss, and raising funds for the Army Benevolent Fund.
My dad served in the 2nd Battalion Parachute Regiment for 7 years, having joined when he was just 17 years old in 1975. His Army career meant a great deal to him, and he held it very close to his heart.
He sadly passed away in April 2025, aged 68. It was completely unexpected and a huge shock to our whole family and to all his friends. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about him.
After retiring, Dad continued to give back by volunteering at the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas, a place that meant so much to him.
Running a marathon is something I never thought I’d do. The furthest I’ve run so far is 10 miles, which I completed at the Derby 10 Mile last year. This challenge is going to push me far outside my comfort zone, both physically and mentally, but I know how proud my dad was of my running journey, and he’d be even prouder of the cause I’m doing this for. I’m ready to put in the hard work, the sacrifices, and the long training miles, and I know the reason behind it all will keep me going.
I’m running for the Army Benevolent Fund, a charity that supports soldiers, veterans, and their families, with everything from housing and mental health support to rehabilitation and mobility equipment. My dad was incredibly passionate about supporting those who serve their country, and I can’t think of a more fitting tribute.
This will be the biggest challenge of my life, but also my proudest moment, doing something in honour of my dad and helping others along the way. I know he’ll be watching over me every step of the way.
I’ll be fundraising and taking part in events throughout the year, and sharing my training journey as I go. If you’re able to support me, I’d be so grateful. Thank you ❤️
