My Updates

Target completed in very wet, windy and muddy conditions!

The last 8 miles of my Frontline Walk done today in very wet, windy, and muddy conditions to complete my target of 80 miles. I’m pleased I made myself get out there and get it done despite the weather. Private Joseph Coupland 13/1439 13th BN East Yorkshire Regiment (my great uncle) died on Monday 13th November 1916 in a filthy, wet, and muddy field in Flanders somewhere near Ypres. He was just 17 years old. He was posthumously awarded three medals and given the ‘King’s Shilling’ (Yes! One shilling, 5 pence in today’s money). He is buried out there in Euston Road Cemetery, Colincamps, one of 140 cemeteries near Ypres. My grandmother often called me Joe when I was a child as I looked just like him. She often thought I was Joe come back. I still have his medals, the telegram from his commanding officer and the ‘King’s Shilling’ along with a photograph of him in uniform. He faced his challenge with extreme bravery.

A bit of a disaster!

Well that was a big mistake trying to do the last 17 miles to hit my target of 80 miles by the 11th. I tried running to start off with, but after about 4 miles my knee was getting quite painful, so I resorted to walking with my knee strapped up. I did manage to get about 11 miles done but failed to hit my target. Feeling pretty 'crap' as I've also missed my target of raising £250. I WILL get the rest of 80 miles done today and hopefully I might get a few more donations. Low morale at the moment, but 'Always a Little Further'. Thanks Billy!

A damp 10 miles

Another 10 miles done and another soaking! I don't particularly like walking or yomping in the rain, but needed to get some more miles done. I was aiming to get all of my 80 miles done by the 11th, but the weather and a bit of a dodgy left knee are hindering me. A big effort needed now.

Sunshire at last!

Another 10 miles done today and at last the sun was shining for most of it. Nearly half way there now. Just need to nudge some more sponsors!

A wet and windy 10 miles!

Wet and windy this morning, but still managed just over 10 miles with an early start. 30 miles done and 50 to go!

Thank you to my Sponsors
