Cardiff Half Marathon 2025

Fundraising for Serving Soldiers, Veterans and Their Families

I've created this page because I want to make a difference. I'm inspired by the work of The Army Benevolent Fund and wanted to support them by raising money as part of my participation in the Cardiff Half Marathon 2025. I am also honored to have been given a charity place to run the London Marathon in 2026 on behalf of the ABF. Please help me out with a donation, however big or small, it would be much appreciated. I have lost many great friends both during my own army service of 23 years and more recently fellow veterans through illness. Please help me to help their legacy and in turn their families by giving whatever you can using the 'donate' button. The more people that know about The Army Benevolent Fund, will convey their great work and their impact on the army family, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!

My Updates

The Physical Drive #marcuswiththeabfflag

So its day 1 after our family holiday to Crete. As lovely as it was its time for the hard graft the next 9 months will bring. Weighing in at 82Kg this morning is not where I need to be. I've started a nutrition plan and will use the Coopah membership gifted to us by ABF to aid our London journey alongside my running club 'Dragons Running Club (Aberdare)' for miles ahead. People often think that as a Gym Instructor, we get to train day in and out but this couldn't be further from the truth. Training time is always after working hours. Balancing realistic training and tangible fund raising can be difficult as targets are always in the back of your mind, often affecting training. No excuses, its time to get on with it, please keep following my progress either here, through socials, strava etc. your support means so much to me! #marcuswiththeabfflag

Photoshoot Kindness - ABF Harness & Flag

Firstly a massive shout out to my friend and fellow runner Conor who took some amazing promo photos for the road ahead! What does that mean? Wearing a Harness with an Army Benevolent Fund flag through the streets of Cardiff this October and in London next April. Time to start training with this bad boy - wind be kind please! #marcusandtheabfflag

Porthcawl 10km Sunday 6 July 2025

Its now less than 100 days until this years Cardiff Half Marathon and I continue to be focused on the event. This weekend will see me taking on another seaside 6.2miles (or 10km) this time in Porthcawl. The weather is set to be a little cooler if not wet, so I'm hoping to balance some good pace before upping the miles ready for October!

Armed Forces Day 2025

So tomorrow is Armed Forces Day! During a career spanning 23 years and a journey through the ranks of the Royal Regiment of Wales and on amalgamation The Royal Welsh, I had the pleasure of serving alongside amazing and inspirational people throughout that time. Unfortunately some are know longer with us having paid the ultimate sacrifice or taken too soon through illness. I am pictured here with the legendary Major Graham Hammond in 1998, Aughnacloy, Northern Ireland. An inspirational Officer Commanding and a great leader.

RIP Sir, you taught me so much.............................

This is why I fundraise for the Army Benevolent Fund, we owe our service family so much gratitude and support in all sorts of circumstances.

Sponsor a Mile

Very humbled by the donations made over the past few days after launching the Sponsor a Mile - people choosing not to take a mile but donating anyway. Big thanks to you all

Sponsor me a Mile 🙏

Next week I will be launching my ‘Sponsor me a Mile’ campaign for Cardiff Half 2025. There will be 14 slots available (13 + the .1). Please choose a mile to donate for and let me know why? It could be to support someone who is serving or some we have unfortunately lost. I’m hoping to get £10 per mile which will help me reach my target for the race.

More exciting news coming in the next few days

Barry 10KM Done

Hot day running the race yesterday but the T-Shirt & Medal is in the bag 👌🏻

Barry 10KM - Sunday 15 June 25

Barry 10KM (what's occurring) beckons tomorrow at 10am? Think I'm ready for the 6.2 miles and most certainly a pint.....I mean an ice cream after the race. Hoping to stick with steady miles for a little longer until ramping up ready for the 13.1 miles that Cardiff required

Training Has Started

Hi Everyone

So training has started, looking forward to the journey ahead. This year is a bit different for me as I struggle with my own health issues as a Type 1 Diabetic, but want this to be the best it can be. This year I will be running with a ABF Teardrop Flag for all to see. I’m running in memory of all those we’ve loved and lost., in service & thereafter, lives taken way too soon. As always thanks for your valued support ❤️💙💚
