The Frontline Walk 2024: The Pyrenees

Army Benevolent Fund

This September I will be taking part in the Frontline Walk: The Pyrenees. We will be hiking over the Pyrenees, reaching an ascent of 2367m, following the escape route used by refugees and allied servicemen during World War Two.

I will be doing this to commemorate the sacrifices and bravery these individuals made in their fight for freedom, whilst helping to support the soldiers and veterans of today.

In these uncertain times, I believe we need to do everything we can to support our armed services in the defence of the free world. Whilst the task of defence spending is primarily for governments, it is important that behind the armed forces,  there is a generous and effective support network so as to ensure our soldiers have that really important safety net. And this is where you and I can provide meaningful support and The Army Benevolent Fund is a great way to support this objective.

I also want to highlight the plight of refugees. During the Second World War these included Jewish people fleeing the horrors of the Nazis as well as anyone needing to escape the atrocities of occupied territories including Vichy France. We need to remember that in the future as in the past, any of us could be refugees.

The Frontline Walk will be a physically and emotionally tough challenge, but I'm doing it all for a great cause: The Army Benevolent Fund, the National Charity of the British Army. They support soldiers, veterans and their families when they need it most.

Please cheer me on by making a donation towards my target. THANK YOU, Giles Boothman
