The Medicine Ball Challenge

My journey!

One in four adults experience mental illness, and many more of us know and care for people who do. Talking openly about we feel can help.

The challenge involves cuffing a 3kg Medicine Ball to my wrist for 7 days. It may not sound that heavy but being tied to the medicine ball continuously for 7 days is a significant burden. The ball becomes a physical, visual and tangible representation of the invisible burden of mental health so many of us can experience.

The challenge raises money for the following charities. Any support you can offer will be gratefully received and split evenly between the causes.

My Journey!

Hello I`m Charlotte, my journey began 7 years ago after welcoming our 2nd beautiful baby into the world, after completing our family I knew shortly after that my feelings and health wasn't right, to begin with I put it down to "baby blues" unfortunately days turned into weeks and weeks weeks were turning into months that then went into years.
Whilst hiding this awful pain away from all my friends and family I felt guilt and pain everyday, my husband was the only one that knew and he supported my in everyway possible. Unfortunately being a military family he was always away and being away from friends and family was the toughest of days. I felt guilty, I felt shame, I felt embarrassed, why was I feeling the way I was when I had 2 beautiful healthy babies but couldn't be happy.
One day i woke up whilst my husband was away on deployment and relised I couldn't live like this anymore, I took my son off to nursery and off I went to the doctors with my daughter happily as ever in the pram, I felt ever emotion possible whilst waiting in the doctors waiting room.
I was scared they would think I wasn't a good mum, sacred I couldn't cope, scared of the shame of my feelings. Oh how I was wrong, it couldn't be any further from that, the doctors said i was suffering from post natal depression and offered medication and counselling.

7years on from the beginning of my journey ive learnt to talk and learn that it is ok not to feel and be ok, if you cut your leg you would clean the cut and take care to make sure its healed, your brain is exactly the same, you need to make sure its healthy and looked after!
I'm raising awareness with the medicine ball challenge that mental health needs to be shared and talked about, if doing this challenge i can reach out to at least someone to share and talk about there feelings i have succeeded!
Thank you for taking the time to read my story! lets talk and share!
Remember... its ok not to feel ok!
