The Frontline Walk 2024: The Pyrenees

You’re doing what?

The short answer is the Army Benevolent Fund's 2024 Frontline Walk, a four day trek retracing the escape route of Allied servicemen and Jewish refugees through the Pyrenees.

Why? To raise as much money as I can to help the British Army’s national charity continue its amazing work supporting veterans and serving soldiers with independent living, care, training, mental wellbeing and housing, and the families of service men, women and veterans who need it.

The Army gave me a wonderful start in life and I was lucky enough to come through physically and mentally unscathed and to be able to embark on a rewarding career. But I am also aware that many of the wonderful people I served with, as well as those coming before and after, have not been so fortunate.

In 2022/3 the ABF helped 70,000 people in 45 countries worldwide, and funded 74 other charities and organisations that deliver frontline services. You can read all about it here How we help - Army Benevolent Fund

My Updates

A 'Home Run'

At about 1400hrs on Saturday 14 Sep, our modern-day band of escapers and evaders, led by Will and Suzy, guided by our Passeurs, Miguel and Amalia, crossed the border into Spain.

We enjoyed/ endured some 32 hours of walking, a lot of climbing, some knee and quad-busting descents, weather ranging from bright sunshine to freezing winds, and even a little snow. We heard many of the stories of those brave men and women who made the journey in the 30s and 40s and the courageous people who supported them... and, yes, we told a few of our own.

Along the way we have raised, so far, around £40,000 for the Army Benevolent Fund which will be put to use directly or through the 70 plus charities they support.

I'd like to thank everyone who has supported me and my wonderful colleagues along the way.
