I've created this page because I want to make a difference. I'm inspired by the work of The Army Benevolent Fund and wanted to support them by raising money as part of my participation in 2025 TCS London Marathon. Why the ABF?

I grew up entirely intertwined with Army life. My late dad George served his full term with the Pioneers, his dad Albert served when the country needed him, both times, his brother Fred too, and countless great-uncles I never got to meet answered the call and gave everything. Growing up, I flipped between camps in Germany and the UK (never anywhere exciting with Pioneer postings) and eventually got shipped to the Duke of Yorks Royal Military School in Dover to spend my youth getting drilled on all things sons of soldiers need to know. Although that life wasn't for me - art school is probably a far from it as it's possible to get legally - the values and standards stuck, to such a degree that my family nickname is Sgt Major, which I secretly don't mind, not a bad rank to be labelled with.
Amongst everything that my 56 years has gifted to me, I hold the the highest value for the in-built confidence and conviction that this upbringing has instilled, and, whilst not an exact mirror, the Army value set is unnervingly familiar to how I think I show up  - courage, discipline, respect for others, integrity, loyalty and selfless commitment. This is why I am running to support the ABF. 
The mission, the shared values, the inspiring purpose, the focus on supporting organisations, individuals and families who have given their all for us. Being able to give my all for my Army family is a challenge I am overjoyed to accept and I will be forever grateful to the ABF for letting me prove this.
I have entered the London Marathon ballot so many times I have lost count, never getting beyond the decision day excepting one success running the virtual participant marathon around, up and down my hilly local villages during lockdown, so this opportunity means a lot and I can't wait to get started.
