Hobnail boots. Are we crazy?
We're two brothers taking part in the Frontline Walk: The Western Front. We'll be trekking 100km in three days following in the footsteps of those who fought on the Somme and Passchendaele battlefields during the First World War
We'll be doing this to commemorate the sacrifices made by those who fought in WWI, in particular, our Great Uncle Sydney Fletcher of the 1/5th Durham Light Infantry(DLI) who was sadly killed at Passchendale on 23rd December 1917 and is buried at Tyne Cot Cemetery.
It will be a physically and emotionally tough challenge, but we're doing it all for a great cause: ABF The Soldiers' Charity, the National Charity of the British Army. They support soldiers, veterans and their families when they need it most.
To add to the mix, we have both decided to undertake the 100km walk in authentic WW1 B5 British Army Boots, complete with hobnails!
I don’t know if our feet will survive the trek in one piece, but it’s the only way of experiencing what these brave lads undertook in those dark days.
Please cheer us on by making a donation towards our target.
