6 Months of fundraising & fitness

As an out of shape veteran, I’m starting Project Steve - 6 Months of cycling, Walking, Swimming and maybe a run or two, raising funds for a number of Military charities and mental health causes.

I’ve completed a few Op Bletchley’s in my time, I no longer use FaceBook, but will record progress on this Blog.

The more people that know about Army Benevolent Fund, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family.

Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot.

My Updates

Day 29 - D-Day Museum #2

Yomped back to the D-Day museum in 26 degree heat today! Paid to have another look around and took some pics of tanks and radio’s, added a few more miles and a few pics to my blog only a few more days to go on OBL24.

Day 26 - Nr Emsworth

Day 26 - short jaunt around another nature reserve in the Emsworth area; Molly hound accompanied by the other Agent Smith

Day 24 - Submarine Museum

Back to Haslar on a sunny/hot day; A long slog, but managed a couple of hours and 6 miles towards my goal; I will be keeping going until the end of July, as this is as much about Op Bletchley as it is Project Steve, so onwards.

Day 23 - Emsworth

Molly, my trusty patrol hound took me around Emsworth harbour for a couple of hours slow walk; BEAU-tiful location, no military significance, but clocked up a few miles towards my total.

Day 23 - Last Leg

I’ve been through some of my pictures and uploaded a few more today, I don’t have too many miles left to get to my 120 target. I have had some finger trouble with my Fitbit and not wearing glasses, a couple of walks recorded as Outdoor bike (0.0 miles) so I am going to audit my Fitbit and manual miles to make sure it is all correct before the end of the event 👌

Day 22 - Stokes Bay & Forts

Very breezy today on the Gosportshire coast, had to secure my hat. A decent mid length walk to Browndown Training area and around a couple of historic forts.

Day 17 & 18 - MFO Boxes

Driver/Movement Specialist Smith reporting for duty!! Surprising how many steps you can manage while helping a family member move house; 2 days of ‘MFO’ box moves (those who know, know), plus a ‘march out’ from a rental to a new hooose; Normal walking resuming next week.

Day 16 - Pompey Navy Divers

Day 16 - back to Pompey & SouthSea with my Mother In Law, nice 10 miles in drizzle, cloud, then a bit of sunshine towards the end of the yomp.

Day 12 - Lee on Solent

Day 12 - Lee on Solent Memorial and back to Gosport. Had a dip in the sea to fix my sore legs and feet; Taking the weekend off, but Should get my 6th code tonight.

Day 10 - The Yomper Southsea

Day 10 - 10 Miles to the Yomper and back to the pier; Hard going in the wind, but at least it is not raining! Should get my next code after this effort.

Day 9 - Haslar Naval Hospital

Day 9 - Another damp yomp around the Gosport area, 7 miles taking in Haslar sites which supported D-Day in 1944; No code today, got another few miles until my next one.

Day 8 - Explosion Museum

Day 8 - No Sunglasses required! A damp yomp around Gosport to Priddies Hard & the Naval Gunfire Museum; Some old guns, new memorials & some light drizzle throughout today’s adventure. Should get my 3rd code tonight all being well.

Day 6 - Gosport Pompey route

Day 5 - Wild Poppies

Day 5 - Falklands memorial

Had to get away from the post election nonsense on the TV, so ventured out on another damp but warm day, walked into Gosport, around Pompey, then came home again. Took a few pics of some Poppies and the Falkland Island memorial in Gosport and Pompey;

Day 3 - Fort Nelson

I ventured out on a rainy morning up to Porchester and walked around Fort Nelson, through the miles of tunnels and ammo storage areas. A few WWII tanks, guns and loads of historical information on the Fort and its importance. Only 3 miles today, as I am trying to get to 120 miles, I need 12 miles to get my first code (10%).

Day 1 - D-Day Museum

After a few years break from ABF fundraising activities, I’m now back on task. As we now live in the Gosport/Pompy area, there’s quite a rich array of military sights to visit, so I started the mission with the D-Day museum in Southsea. A nice 10 Mile round trip to get warmed up and hopefully get my first code to crack. Good luck all agents taking part this year.
